Here are some things to think about when researching your new beard trimmer…

home

What do you need it for?

Will it simply be to tidy up your beard? Will you be shaving a large area or just trimming the edges of your beard? Do you need it to shave other areas such as your head or body hair?

What type of beard do you have?

Do you have a long and bushy beard? Or do you have a short beard, or just a little bit of designer stubble that you’re keen to keep?

When and where will you use your beard trimmer?

Do you always shave in the bathroom or your bedroom, or do you need a trimmer that you can take away with you, perhaps when you travel? If you’re often away from home, and especially if you like to go camping where there isn’t a handy plug socket, then a cordless trimmer might be the best beard trimmer for you.

Corded VS Cordless

Perhaps the first thing to think about is whether or not to buy a corded or cordless model. A cordless beard trimmer will either be rechargeable or it will take batteries. Either way can lead to frustration if you’re not organised, if you run out of charge, or the batteries go flat just when you need it, or worse, halfway through a shave! You don’t want to be going to work with half a beard! However, the cordless models do give you that extra level of portability. You can take it anywhere and you can shave anywhere. You’re not tied to somewhere close to a power socket.

If you do opt for a cordless trimmer, checking out the estimated battery life could well be a good idea as not all trimmers run for the same length of time on a full charge or a new set of batteries. Or you could opt for the best of both worlds and choose a trimmer that works when plugged in but also cordless too.

Adjust-ability

If you have specific requirements for your beard, or perhaps changing requirements depending on the season or just how you feel, then the greater the level of adjustment the better. The best beard trimmers will have several trimming levels that you can set, so if you change your beard style, you won’t need to invest in a new trimmer.

Ease of Use

When you’re looking at new trimmers, take a look at the shape and imagine yourself using it. If you tend to spend a long time trimming your beard, you’ll need a trimmer that’s comfortable to hold and that you can maintain a grip on. Also consider how easy it will be to clean, and if it has removable attachments, are these simple to swap and replace? Reading beard trimmer reviews should help you to find this out.

Budget

Of course budget is often a factor. There are beard trimmers available to suit all budgets. Generally, the more you pay, the more features you’ll have, but the most expensive beard trimmer is not necessarily the best beard trimmer for you.

Before you make your purchase, it’s a good idea to read plenty of beard trimmer reviews and find out which one will be the best for your needs, within your own budget. But also for finding out which trimmers are not so good, which have a habit of developing faults, and which trimmers other people have used and been very happy with.

If you’re looking at a battery powered trimmer, then don’t forget to factor in the price of batteries too. Sometimes it can be cost effective to spend a bit more on a rechargeable trimmer than to buy a cheaper one that gets through a lot of batteries.
