Grooming is a part of your daily routine. Your beard needs a trim – and so does your hair. You don’t have time to get to a barber. What do you do? Invest in a good hair clipper.
The Philips Series 500 is a versatile hair clipper, and it’s one we really enjoy using because it never irritates our skin. It also cuts twice as fast as a typical hair clipper, which means we spend less time in the bathroom and more time doing things that actually matter.
We’ll be the first to admit that the 5000 isn’t perfect, but its minor flaws are easily overlooked when you consider the speed, affordability and ease of use this clipper offers.
- Cuts in half the time of a typical hair clipper
- Allows for precise length adjustment
- Beard and hair comb lets you trim your beard to your desired length
- Mains and cordless operation is convenient
- Long battery life
- Blades are self-sharpening and durable
- Turbo power button makes cutting even faster
- Comb gets clogged
Philips says the comb lifts and glides across hair, releasing it as it goes along. But that isn’t exactly true. We had some issues with the comb getting clogged a few times. This isn’t a major issue as all clipper combs need to be emptied at some point during cutting. And if you’re only doing a trim, you probably won’t have to clear the comb until you’re done.
Our Philips Series 5000 Hair Clipper Review
The Series 5000 is a clipper that was on our review list for a long time. Its affordable price was one of the first things that attracted us, but we also wanted to put the DualCut technology to the test.
These clippers really are fast. They really do cut hair twice as fast as a conventional clipper. And the added turbo power button makes cutting even quicker.
Just a word of caution – make sure that you’re used to these clippers and know exactly how/where you want to cut. This thing can move pretty fast and it’s easy to make a mistake as a result.

One thing you’ll appreciate about this clipper (I know we did) is the blades. The titanium blades are self-sharpening, so they’re always ready for use. Titanium is highly durable, too, and resistant to corrosion.
The blades are washable, so you can easily keep your clippers clean in between uses.
You also have the option of choosing between corded and cordless use. It takes about an hour to charge, and you’ll get 90 minutes of cordless use.
The rounded blades of this clipper prevent skin irritation and glide right across for a smooth, clean cut. We highly recommend this clipper if you’re looking for something that’s affordable, easy to use and cuts hair in half the time.Click here to see pricing and availability for the Philips Series 5000 clipper on Amazon.
